Star’s Happy Tail:

FullSizeRender

The month of October is breast cancer awareness. This disease affects many women and their loved ones and it also affects our beloved and faithful pets as well. Our beautiful 13 year old, Star was diagnosed with mammary gland cancer. With the terrific care of her vet, the tender loving care of her foster family, we are thrilled to report that Star is cancer free with the expectations of a normal Westie life span.

We are even more delighted to announce that Star has been adopted! Her new family heard about her and took one look at this loving, senior Westie, and her new mum, Ashton said “I love her and want her.” Star will live out the remainder of her life with a loving, caring family who will bring joy, happiness and kindness to Lone Star Westie Rescue’s beautiful, amazing shining Star. Twinkle on sweet girl with your marvelous new humans and new Westie bro, Miles.

Star Needs a Furever Home:

Star groomed 2

Well wishes and prayers for our sweet foster Star.  This sweet senior girl was surrendered to LSWR when her family started traveling and could no longer keep her.  She is having surgery on Thursday to remove a mast cell tumor on her side.  Star has a beautiful, spunky soul and  loves attention, hugs, kisses and I give lots of Westie kisses.
We pray for a speedy recovery on this shining Star.

MITZI’S HAPPY TAIL

Happy Tail Mitzi

Lone Star Westie Rescue has heard from Mitzi’s new family and we are happy to report that Mitizi is adjusting very well to her new life.  She has many favorite places in her new home but her top choice is the recliner.  She spent the July 4th holiday with family, friends and some new doggie pals and did great with the other dogs.  Her new family reports that she has taken over the house and told us, “we love her so much and we can tell she is happy here with us.”  Another success story at Lone Star Westie Rescue – Helping Westies in Need.

Why Adopt a Senior Westies

rocky

Older Westies are not necessarily “problem dogs” as many tend to think.  Senior dogs lose their homes for a variety of reasons, usually having nothing to do with their behavior or temperament, but more due to the fact that their owners are unable to keep them for reasons including: the novelty of owning a dog wearing off, allergies, death of a guardian, a new baby, loss of a job, a move, change in work schedule, and various other lifestyle changes.  These dogs need homes just as badly as young adoptees do, and make wonderful household pets.

This is my new mom Barb!  She is my very own special angel.  Do you believe in miracles?  I certainly do. She filled my broken heart with love and understanding.  I am so smitten with her and vice versa.

Thank you LSWR for guiding me to my perfect home.

Hugs and kisses,

Rooney Needs a “Furever” Home (Update)

rooney101rooney102

It’s me Rooney. Foster mum took a few more pictures of me now that my hair is growing in a bit. I heard some whispering the other day that I might not be a full Westie because me ears don’t stand up and no one knows what the ole hair will look like when it comes back. Well let me tell you something, I play like a Westie and I love like a Westie. I’ve got me a little play mate and we are having a blast. I am two years old and all I think about is playing. I’m working on getting my faux-westie-ears to cooperate a little bit better. I’ll get back to you when I can get em to stand up. I am the best boy on the planet and can’t wait to shower my new family with love and laughter.

“Ba-Bam!”
Love Roon (that is short for Rooney)

*Note from LSWR – if you are able to visit Rooney, please do not let him know that he is not a full-blooded Westie. It really hurts his feelings.

If you are interested in adopting our little Westie Impostor, please complete our Online Application above.

Rooney

Hello everyone, my name is Rooney and I just arrived.  I am an adorable 2 year old, neutered terrier mix, potty trained, current on all my shots and micro-chipped.  I am a fun-loving boy, full of life and high spirits and an all around great dog.  Oh, and I forgot to say I am cute and very smart, too.  I was left alone on a deserted country road to fend for myself but a very nice Samaritan scooped me up and contacted LSWR to help me.

I am a great little guy and am very grateful for my second chance at a happy life.  If you are looking for a great companion and a sweet boy, I would love to hear from you!

XOXO Rooney

If you are interested in adopting Rooney, you must fill out an Online Application located in the menu bar above.

ADOPTED: Mitzi’s Needs a Furever Home

mitzi4 mitzi3

My name is Mitzi and I’m a lively Westie girl about three years old. When I came to LSWR I was pretty skinny, but now I’m starting to put on a little weight. And I’ve gotten back my energy — just ask the squirrels that try to come into our back yard! One day my foster dad brought me back from a walk in the park and we found two bunny rabbits and three squirrels playing in the front yard. I could have caught at least a couple of them if I hadn’t been dragging my foster dad around on the end of his leash.

My fosters tell everybody how affectionate I am. I love to curl up next to someone and take a nap. And it takes me only a few seconds to make friends with anyone I meet. When I meet a new dog I check him out pretty closely, but I’m a little reserved. And I confess I sometimes give my foster brother some grief, especially if he’s getting too much attention from my foster dad or mom. So I may be better off in a home where I can be the queen dog.

The doggy doctor says I’m healthy; I just need to add a little weight. And I’ll be getting a dental cleaning soon.

So please complete our Online Application if you’d like to know more about me. I’m really ready for my new home.

ADOPTED: Kaden, 3 year old Westie

Kaden cropped

Hello…my name is Kaden and I’m around 2-3 years young.  I am a very healthy little Westie and I am enjoying a new start.

I love to chase tennis balls, bringing it back, is a skill I am still working on.  I play really well with all my foster buddies and get along great with them.  I am working on the “sit” command and mastering that skill quite fast.  I am most comfortable when I am within sight of you.  My favorite place is in your lap, but if that is not possible around you is second best.  I’m a bit scared of my foster dad but I am working on conquering that fear.   My foster parents are doing a great job working with me and they say I continue to change every day.  They said I grows less fearful each day and what a brave little boy I am.

I’m learning so many social skills and new things in foster care so my new owners must have patience with me.  I do not like to feel trapped.  I get along great with my other foster buddies and I will blossom with another furry friend so my new family MUST have another furry friend for me.  I have gained so much confidence and I get smarter and smarter every day.  I walk very well on the leash and love walks.  I am neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped so I am ready to meet my great new family.  Could that be you?  I promise you will not be disappointed!

Happy hugs & Westie kisses…Kaden

ADOPTED: Sofie, 3 month old Westie puppy

Sofie PF pic

My name is Sofie and I’m an adorable 3 month old female Westie puppy.  My owner surrendered me and my littermate Fergie when her lifestyle changed and she was unable to take care of us.  I am all puppy and I love the resident Westies here. They tolerate me and I follow them everywhere and bite their necks, ears, tails and paws. I love my toys and shoes & shoe laces are excellent also.

I too am a strong willed energetic ball of white fluff and I will need training to give my new owner the upper hand over my strong will as well as to occupy my curious and intelligent little brain.

If you have a lot of time to spend with a baby like me, send in that application. Better hurry because a little fun and spunky girl like me will be very popular! Lots of kisses, Sofie

Please note LSWR does not ship any pets.

To be considered to adopt a Westie puppy:

  • You must have a secure fenced backyard
  • If you have a pool, the pool must have a fence around the perimeter of the pool
  • You must live within the DFW Metroplex area

MAXWELL NEEDS A HOME

Hey there, my name’s Maxwell and I’m another recent addition to the LSWR family. This group sure has been busy helping Westies and well….me! I was picked up as a stray from an animal shelter. I think I’m a Westie and Cairn mix and a pretty good looking lil dude!

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. My dog-tor says I’m a young lad around 2 yrs of age, healthy and I weigh in around 16 lbs. I have good manners as I do my biz’ outside and I’m a very good listener!

I’ve been giving my foster mom some good kisses and really enjoying our walks together with that pretty little foster sibling. Foster Mom says I can’t take my fur-sibling with me to my new home but that’s ok because I like all doggies and would enjoy having another fur-sib to hang with.

I’m still a little uncertain as to all the recent changes I’ve been experiencing so if you have a little extra patience for me that would be dog-gone terrific. I love to go for walks and walk really well on a leash. I am neutered, microchipped and up to date on my vaccinations. I am looking for a new “leash” on life, would you be my new family?

Lovin’ life, Maxwell

OLAF NEEDS A FUREVER HOME:

Olaf IMG_9052 IMG_1255

Hi!  My name is Olaf.

I was found wandering the streets, thirsty, hungry and with eyes so crusty, it was hard to see.  My rescuer (guardian angel) searched for my owner but sadly, no one came to get me.  She then called LSWR, and sure enough, they came to my rescue!

LSWR took me to the dogtor and she said I have eye and ear infections.  But don’t worry; with medication, I’ll be just like new in a couple of weeks.  I’m current on my shots and in a couple of weeks, I’ll be neutered and microchipped.

I’m about 2-3 years old.  I like to play with other dogs and was a good boy at the dogtor’s office.  I would LOVE to have a new family to call my own.  If you want a sweet snuggler like me, fill out an adoption application.  I’ll be waiting for you.

Westie hugs and kissses!

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out the Online Application on our Facebook Page at http://www.facebook.com/LoneStarWestieRescue or you can complete an Online Application on our website at http://www.lswr.us.

ADOPTED: Lil’ Stanley Needs a Furever Home

Hello, I’m Lil’ Stanley, a wee little puppy (7 pounds) that will be looking for my new “furever” family. I was a recent shelter pup, but I’m now the latest addition to the LSWR family. I am so thankful a volunteer came to retrieve me from the shelter! I was scared, lonely and hurt. I am estimated to be about 6 months old and in great health with the exception of my bum, rear leg. While I can’t tell my dog-tor what happened to me, she believes I was hit by a car sometime ago and most likely I was not taken to a dog-tor at the time of my injury. The bones on my leg did not heal properly, and as a result, I experience pain when putting weight on it.

I can’t use that leg very well and I visited an orthopedic specialist to see if I can keep my leg. It would be great if I could but the injury is beyond repair and my leg will have to be amputated. I can tell you I am not letting this injury get in my way as I get around just fine with my 3 legs!

I just love life, enjoy being cuddled and giving hugs to humans. The entire staff at the vet’s office all fell in love with me. Really, they said I was the coolest perfect puppy ever, and they should know as they see lots of puppies. They spoiled and loved on me a lot. They made a big fuss saying good-bye when I left to go to my foster home. They said to come back after my surgery and they’d puppy sit me while I recuperate.

My surgery to remove my leg will be Tuesday 4/22. I might need a little time to physically heal but once that’s behind me, I will be ready to get on with my life and be loved by my “fur”ever family. The volunteers are looking for a very special home for me. Can you make room in home and your heart for me? Just ask for lil’ Stanley. I promise, I will fill your days and heart with love, hugs & kisses.

Puppy kisses to everyone!

Lil Stanley

Cassie Needs a Furever Home

Cassie ?????????????????????? OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hello,

My name is Cassie and I am almost 7 years old.  Although my most recent history was as a puppy mill momma, I am your typical Westie girl.   I have a kind spirit and a large amount of curiosity.  I am currently working on house skills but, I am getting the hang of it.  I have a positive attitude and willingness to make you happy.  I have pretty darn good leash skills and I will soon be ready for long walks.  I am spayed, vaccinated, and micro-chipped.  I get along great with other dogs.

I am one busy little Westie.  The only time I am still is when I’m chewing on a treat.  Since I never really experienced the puppy stage, I am making up for it now.  I love to chase tennis balls, but I am still working on mastering the skill of bringing the ball back to my foster mom and dad.

I am great dog for someone who appreciates the incredible Westie spirit.  I am a very special girl who knows her best times are ahead.  I am a Westie survivor!  My foster family says I am a Westie delight!  So if you think you can really appreciate this “Westie delight” send in your application.  You might just hear from me.

Cassie

Duffy Needs a Furever Home:

duffy101Duffy

Hi Everyone!

My name is Duffy and I am available for adoption. I am 5 yrs old and a little small at 16 lbs. The vet said I would look good up to 20 lbs. I am a retired working boy and am making the transition to family dog. I walk on a leash, sleep in a crate, play well with other dogs, and really like people. I am learning not to jump up on humans but I am so happy to be with you, it is hard!!

I wear a sumo belt in the house because sometimes I forget I am not outside and have tinkle accidents. Foster mom and I are going to dog school. I like the socializing aspect more than learning, but it will happen.

I have lots of energy and like to go on long walks. I am not a picky eater and even like some people foods: carrots, apples, rice, eggs, grilled chicken, and canned salmon. Since I didn’t have a good dental plan at the last place, my front teeth had to be removed. But don’t worry because my kibble-chompers in the back work just fine!

I am a really sweet guy (foster people say that, not just me) and would love to join your family. Send LSWR an application and let’s meet!

Look at the pictures and see how cute I am!!

To inquire about adopting fill out our Online Application in the menu tab above.  An application must be completed before we can start the adoption process.

Hope’s Story

cropped IMG_1579 cropped IMG_1574 cropped IMG_1572 cropped IMG_1567

Animal cruelty can be either abandonment, deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of an animal by not providing even the basic care. I am a victim of such cruelties.

I was found wandering the streets and picked up by a local shelter. My chances of surviving in the shelter were slim to none. I was quickly put on the list to be euthanized until LSWR speedily stepped in to say, “YES, we will take her”. The guardian angel who came to see me at the shelter looked into my eyes and knew I felt so badly that I was ready to go to the Rainbow Bridge.

We headed straight to the vet where I was hospitalized for severe skin, ear and eye infections and malnourishment. I was frightened and confused but the staff did their best to reassure me that everything would be okay. I am estimated to be 6 years old but frail, tired, and my bones are showing through. I move very slowly right now, but I’m not in any rush. I know it will take some time to become a new dog. I have a shining spirit and a clear will to survive.

The struggle to survive is nothing compared to the abuse and suffering I experienced in my past. Today also marks the beginning of the healing of my body, my mind, my soul and my heart. I have a whole new and wonderful life ahead of me.

I am now in my foster home resting and enjoying all the comforts that indoor living brings. I have a huge appetite and love eating delicious food and yummy treats. I am receiving lots of love, attention and spa (medicated) baths. I don’t even mind taking my meds because after my medicines I get a tasty treat.

I know that with the help of all of LSWR volunteers, I will find my way home to my new loving family. I will make a full recovery!
If you’d like to send me a note on FB or (lswrvolunteers@verizon.net), my foster mom said she’ll read them to me. Or if you’d like to send in a donation to LSWR to help special fosters like me, please visit http://www.lswr.us and click on the PAYPAL button to donate. You can also mail your donation to:
