Update From Miss Pearl! **ADOPTED**

Hi fellow Westie friends! Pearl here! Happy Friday to you! Well, actually, every day is a happy day for me! I wanted to tell you about my new life and fabulous family! They spoil me rotten, and I LOVE IT! Can you say spa days, hair days, dress up and relaxing weekends at the lake house? Not to mention my golf cart rides…

I’ve had to teach my family a thing or two about fishing, which includes not getting wet or dirty, and they seem to be getting the hang of it. After fishing and play-chasing the rabbits (I really only want to play!), I cozy up and take a nap anywhere I want. I’m truly one blessed little girl!

XOXO ❤

****Huck has been ADOPTED into his FUR-EVER HOME!****

Huck’s Happy New life:

Well folks today was a great day in the life of this Huckleberry Finn (aka Huck)! I am no longer a wanderer thanks to the LSWR rescue program & my foster family! I had two Westie brothers to show me the ropes of living in a home, getting healthy & what a loving family means to those of us living on the streets.

And life got better than imagined when my new parents wrote to LSWR & said they wanted ME to join their family! Now I have two awesome parents & two fur-sisters! I will have many new adventures and a wonderful new life! Just look at all of us…Happy 2016 to ME!!!

xoxo Huck

Huck Capture Huck Capture1

My name is Huck and I am a 10 year old neutered male Westie.  Animal Control found me wandering the streets and took me to the shelter and while I waited patiently, my owners never came for me.  My heart was broken but then an LSWR volunteer came for me immediately and brought me home.

I am an easy-going happy guy. I came in on the thin side but have gained some weight.   I am very friendly and love my foster parents and other dogs. I am potty trained and very well mannered.   I must admit, I’m quite a perfect gentleman.  I’m neutered, current on my shots and microchipped.   A lovely home with a yard and some furry doggie friends would be “pawsitively” awesome!

I am just about the cutest and sweetest guy you could ever hope to meet. All I need is a new forever home to make my new life complete.

So if you think you are my special family, complete an online application and ask for me.

XOXO Huck

Kirby **ADOPTED**

PicMonkey Collage  IMG_0063

Hello, my name is Kirby!  I am an adorable 6-7 year old Terrier so let me tell you a little bit about me.

I came from a local shelter scared and alone, as I had been wandering the streets.  My time was running out until LSWR rallied to save me.  Next, I find myself being examined by the dogtor and off I go to my foster home.

I am a very calm sweet boy and quiet too, not too much barking on my part only when my foster family gets home and I’m happy and anxious to see them.  Other than that, I don’t make a peep.  I love laying on big pillow beds and watch the world go by.  I came in really thin but I’m a fantastic eater, inhaling my food and I don’t miss any meals!  I filled out quite nicely.  Oh and my ears, well, they don’t work together.  I never have both up at the same time – it’s always one at a time but it’s really cute though.  I have great potty manners, I go right out the back door, hit the grass and potty so I would say I’m 100% potty trained.  I’m vaccinated, neutered and microchipped.  My teeth were in pretty bad shape so I had a dental a few weeks ago and had some teeth extracted but I’m doing great now.

I sleep in a crate at night and really like my comfy bed, only require a fluffy, comfy pillow! When it’s time to go to bed at night, I am usually on a pillow in the family room – I look up at my foster mom and dad basically saying “I’m fine here”.

I’m going to make a super wonderful companion and thanks to my wonderful foster family, I am I just beginning to learn how to accept / give affection.  It seems like I have not had that before but I know someone will be so lucky to have me – I am just a love!!

So please complete an online application and inquire about wonderful me!

XOXO Kirby

My name is Audry and I was a little lost soul until I arrived at LSWR.  I am a young girl approximately 3-4 years old, spayed and current on all my shots. I am a delightful little girl and I have a very sweet temperament, perfect manners and perfectly housetrained.  I walk great on a leash and enjoy car rides.  When I first came into foster care, I showed a little anxiety, but I settled in quickly.  My foster family is working on getting some meat on my bones as I am very thin, but I am a very good eater.  I get along great with my Westie foster buddy and I am learning to trust my human foster family.  I know it’s the holiday season but I believe in the magic of Christmas and know that Santa and everyone at LSWR is looking out for me.

I may not be all Westie, perhaps a Cairn/Schnauzer sprinkled by a Wesite mix, but I have so much love to give and I will make someone a perfect companion.  Just look at my pictures and check out my video on youTube.  I know I’m going to have my very own family very soon.

Louise **ADOPTED**

Louise FullSizeRender - 3Louise FullSizeRenderLouise1FullSizeRender (10)

Hi…I’m Louise, Thelma’s sister, but my pals call me Wheezy.  I am 2 years old and brand new to LSWR. I am gaining my confidence more and more and love to be with people.

Like Thelma, I am also a talker – especially at feeding time. I am a tiny little girl, weighing in at 10-11 pounds.  I should be training for the Olympic trials because I am a great jumper.  I can clear 3 1/2 feet easily whenever I want to.

I am the calmer one of the two, but I like more activity than Thelma. I don’t play with toys much but I do like to busy. And boy, I love the great outdoors!! I am spayed, current on my shots and microchipped and get along great with other dogs, so what’s not to love about me?

I am learning many new things but sometimes I get startled by new situations.  I am looking forward to my new family, a calm quiet environment works just fine.  I will make a wonderful super dog companion for the right family!!

XOXO Wheezy

Thelma **ADOPTED**

Tabby FullSizeRenderTabby 1FullSizeRender - 5Tabby FullSizeRender - 3

Hello, my name is Thelma, but my friends call me Tabby.  I am a young Cairn terrier mix who recently joined LSWR. My prior owner could no longer care for me and I was taken to a high kill shelter but thankful LSWR came to my aid.

I am quite the talker, very low energy and 2 years young. In fact my goal in life is to be a beautiful couch cushion accessory. I don’t play with toys much but I sure do love to be with people. I need some hugs early in the morning and when you return home from work. I’m close to mastering the potty training skills.  I am spayed, current on my shots and microchipped.  I get along great with other dogs. So I’m ready to meet my new family any day now. I would do great in any quiet household that is looking for a cutie companion like me. I am okay with children 8 years of age or older.

Come on, submit that online application and ask for me, you’ll be glad you did.

Love Thelma

Ellie **ADOPTED**

Ellie1groomed Ellie2groomed

My name is Ellie!  I am a very young and healthy puppy, estimated to be about 12 months old.  I’m spayed, microchipped and current on all my shots.  I was found wandering the city streets and picked up by a shelter.  I am a very sweet cutie patootie, love my human foster mom and Dad, especially following my foster mom around the house.

When I first came into foster care I had a strong desire to be the alpha of the pack and I needed some training to polish up my puppy manners.  I had to fend for myself and my little brother Billie when we were strays, but all that is behind me now.  I get along great with my 2 Westie foster buddies, and boy can we play and play non-stop.

I am looking for a loving family who I can shower with love and kisses.  I am just that kinda girl.  I would probably do okay with older kids and a furry doggie friend is fine by me.  If you have the time and patience for me, I promise to be your best girl friend and fill your heart with love and laughter.  So hurry and complete the online application.  I know I will steal your heart.

XOXO Ellie

Boomer and Karma **ADOPTED**

Boomerkarma1

Will you open your heart and home to Boomer and/or Karma?

These two wonderful Westies are still looking for that person or family who will love them and take good care of them as they go through life.

Boomer is in our Walking Them Home program; at 15 years young, he is starting to slow down and needs a great home where he can live out the rest of his life. Lone Star Westie Rescue will pay for all of his medical and other needs for as long as needed. He’s a very sweet guy who loves belly rubs and attention. He can go on short walks. He does have some health issues, but those are being managed with medications.

Karma, at 13 years young, is still very active. She loves walks and squeaky toys. She’s a very healthy, spry girl! She will do best as the only pet in the home and no children.

Boomer and Karma have been together all of their lives. We would prefer that they stay in the same home where they are the only furkids, but we are open to the possibility of placing them separately if we can find the right homes for each.

Boomer and Karma

Boomer wanted to tell everyone our story, but I think I have a better handle on how this all works.  I’m Karma and I have never been without Boomer; he was all of 2 years old when I showed up.  We had a great life together for many years with the same family, but life happened and our circumstances changed then LSWR answered our mom’s call for help.   We saw the dogtor and went to our foster homes, but Boomer was sad without me.  His foster mom, my foster family and LSWR decided it would be best if we stayed together and now we are hanging in our foster home until our new forever family finds us!  Boomer was so relieved to see that he didn’t leave my side for 2 days. The dogtor says we are a good looking couple and in great health.

Now for the good part, me! I love to run, play, eat, and help my foster mom with gardening.  I’m irresistible and if you don’t think so, I’ll sit up on my hind quarters waving my paws to make sure you are not missing any cuteness. When the door opens to go out I’m first in line and second to the last one in. I thought I was a good swimmer, but I over estimated my abilities. It’s so hard to be humble when you have so much going for you.  I could go on about me, but I’d like to tell you about my older brother, Boomer. He’s a laid back Westie and loves….well me! He likes his belly rubbed, exploring the backyard, food and again me. He too sits on his hind quarters for dinner and treats, but hasn’t perfected the “paw waving” technique that I have mastered.  He’s a bit hard of seeing and uses me as a guide in new places.  Once he has the lay of the land there is no stopping him.

Please check out our pictures and video for more irresistible cuteness!!

Kisses and Cuddles,

Karma & Boomer

North Texas Giving Day Funds

northtexasgivingday-1401484031.372-infographic-(small)

Lone Star Westie Rescue’s board and founding members are all volunteers. All your donations go towards the Westies that come into our program. We do not have any paid staff. We rely on your donations to help all the Westies that come through our doors. One Westie can cost us over $300 for the vet exam, shots, and michrochipping. Sometimes, we incur additional expenses such as dental cleanings, heartworm treatment, and/or specialized skin treatments that can start at $600.

From 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm we are asking for $40 donations to help cover the cost of microchipping our intakes. At over 32 Westies rescued in 2013 just microchipping cost us $1,280 and we are expected to rescue more in 2014.

To donate, go to our link https://www.northtexasgivingday.org/#npo/lone-star-westie-rescue. Lone Star Westie Rescue thanks you for your generous support.

Cassie’s Happy Tail

ht_cassie201 ht_cassie202

One thing you can always count on with a Westie is tenacity. Therefore, it is no surprise that here at Lone Star Westie Rescue we feel like Cassie was holding out – determined to wait for that perfect family. But, who could blame her. Once you’ve been fostered at the wonderful home of Mary and Stephen, you pretty much get picky about your future. Cassie’s new family is beaming with joy that Cassie decided to rescue them. It’s been reported that Cassie will soon be sporting her OU t-shirt in time for the Texas/OU weekend. That’s a little hard to swallow for “us” Texas fans, but we look forward to seeing Cassie help her family root on the Sooners. We have no doubt that her “furever” family will adjust quickly to her love and devotion.

Again, we want to remind everyone that North Texas Giving Day is quickly approaching. On September 18th we will be sending out a link that will direct you to the North Texas Giving Day website where you can make a donation to Lone Star Westie Rescuehttp://www.northtexasgivingday.org/#npo/lone-star-westie-rescue

North Texas Giving Day:

poster_louie001

Who remembers our sweet little Louie. Well, as Lone Star Westie Rescue gears up for North Texas Giving Day we wanted to share some of our past foster stories and get your comments. We all know that caring for a beloved pet can be expensive. How much do you spend a year on pet care?

As you can see from Louie’s picture below he came into Lone Star Westie Rescue with severe skin issues. With the proper medical care and the love and support of volunteers Louie was able to make a full recovery. Unfortunately, it is often the case that Lone Star Westie Rescue’s adoption fees don’t cover the full cost of medical care and that is where we rely on the generous support of the community. As North Texas Giving Day approaches, please consider donating to Lone Star Westie Rescue so that we can help Westies in need.
#NTXGivingDay #lonestarwestierescue #helpingwestiesinneed

Here is a wonderful update from Louie’s furever mum:

“This is a pic if Louie’s first grooming last winter. He now has a full coat of hair as does his tail! Louie is a character; loving and adorable. He loves to love and be loved. He loves Clementine and always has to nuzzle her every morning before going out.

We have pet names for him; Louis, baby boy and of course Louie Louie. He’s learned to obey (most of the time), loves to chase bugs and play with his toys and run through the house with Clem.

Louie is a joy, a delight———He’s perfect!”

Your support throughout the year is what gives Lone Star Westie Rescue the resources to help Westies like Patch. It was only with your generous donations that our volunteers were able to transport him from San Antonio to DFW where he was able to undergo surgery for his eye injury. This is only one of many stories where the Lone Star Westie Rescue is able to give Westies the help they need and then place them into loving homes.

On September 18th from 6 am to midnight Lone Star Westie Rescue will participate in the North Texas Giving Day. We will be providing more information as the date approaches. In the meantime, please take some time to check out #NTXGivingDay and Lone Star Westie Rescue thanks you for your continued support.

MITZI’S HAPPY TAIL:

hp_mitzi002 ht_mitzi001

Mitzi’s furever mom reports that, “Mitzi is settling in and I think she realizes this is home.  She is very affectionate and such a joy to be around.  At first she was on her guard when we played on the floor, but no more!  She likes to go for rides, car or golf cart.  She’s asleep on my lap now.  She likes our recliners and when we sit in them, she moves to the sofa.  That seems to be her space!”
