If fostering is something you have thought about, we urge you to make it a reality. All shelters are currently overflowing and foster homes are so greatly needed. Will you please consider being a foster parent for a few short weeks? Please email lswrvolunteers@verizon.net if you can help with these rescue efforts.

Fourth of July Fireworks

PLEASE REMEMBER AND PREPARE: July 4th is the NUMBER ONE day pets go missing. Please secure them in an area where the fireworks will not spook them. PLEASE see that they are microchipped AND registered to YOU. Collars can fall off or can be taken off. The microchip is the best way of assuring YOUR DOG A WAY BACK HOME.

Why Adopt a Senior Westies

rocky

Older Westies are not necessarily “problem dogs” as many tend to think.  Senior dogs lose their homes for a variety of reasons, usually having nothing to do with their behavior or temperament, but more due to the fact that their owners are unable to keep them for reasons including: the novelty of owning a dog wearing off, allergies, death of a guardian, a new baby, loss of a job, a move, change in work schedule, and various other lifestyle changes.  These dogs need homes just as badly as young adoptees do, and make wonderful household pets.

ADOPTED: Sofie, 3 month old Westie puppy

My name is Sofie and I’m an adorable 3 month old female Westie puppy.  My owner surrendered me and my littermate Fergie when her lifestyle changed and she was unable to take care of us.  I am all puppy and I love the resident Westies here. They tolerate me and I follow them everywhere and bite their necks, ears, tails and paws. I love my toys and shoes & shoe laces are excellent also.

I too am a strong willed energetic ball of white fluff and I will need training to give my new owner the upper hand over my strong will as well as to occupy my curious and intelligent little brain.

If you have a lot of time to spend with a baby like me, send in that application. Better hurry because a little fun and spunky girl like me will be very popular! Lots of kisses, Sofie

Please note LSWR does not ship any pets.

To be considered to adopt a Westie puppy:

  • You must have a secure fenced backyard
  • If you have a pool, the pool must have a fence around the perimeter of the pool
  • You must live within the DFW Metroplex area
  • Not have children under 8 years of age

You must have prior Westie experience.

If you meet the above criteria and have a lot of time and patience to train a Westie puppy, submit the online application.

OLAF NEEDS A FUREVER HOME:

Olaf IMG_9052 IMG_1255

Hi!  My name is Olaf.

I was found wandering the streets, thirsty, hungry and with eyes so crusty, it was hard to see.  My rescuer (guardian angel) searched for my owner but sadly, no one came to get me.  She then called LSWR, and sure enough, they came to my rescue!

LSWR took me to the dogtor and she said I have eye and ear infections.  But don’t worry; with medication, I’ll be just like new in a couple of weeks.  I’m current on my shots and in a couple of weeks, I’ll be neutered and microchipped.

I’m about 2-3 years old.  I like to play with other dogs and was a good boy at the dogtor’s office.  I would LOVE to have a new family to call my own.  If you want a sweet snuggler like me, fill out an adoption application.  I’ll be waiting for you.

Westie hugs and kissses!

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out the Online Application on our Facebook Page at http://www.facebook.com/LoneStarWestieRescue or you can complete an Online Application on our website at http://www.lswr.us.

Hope’s Story

cropped IMG_1579 cropped IMG_1574 cropped IMG_1572 cropped IMG_1567

Animal cruelty can be either abandonment, deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of an animal by not providing even the basic care. I am a victim of such cruelties.

I was found wandering the streets and picked up by a local shelter. My chances of surviving in the shelter were slim to none. I was quickly put on the list to be euthanized until LSWR speedily stepped in to say, “YES, we will take her”. The guardian angel who came to see me at the shelter looked into my eyes and knew I felt so badly that I was ready to go to the Rainbow Bridge.

We headed straight to the vet where I was hospitalized for severe skin, ear and eye infections and malnourishment. I was frightened and confused but the staff did their best to reassure me that everything would be okay. I am estimated to be 6 years old but frail, tired, and my bones are showing through. I move very slowly right now, but I’m not in any rush. I know it will take some time to become a new dog. I have a shining spirit and a clear will to survive.

The struggle to survive is nothing compared to the abuse and suffering I experienced in my past. Today also marks the beginning of the healing of my body, my mind, my soul and my heart. I have a whole new and wonderful life ahead of me.

I am now in my foster home resting and enjoying all the comforts that indoor living brings. I have a huge appetite and love eating delicious food and yummy treats. I am receiving lots of love, attention and spa (medicated) baths. I don’t even mind taking my meds because after my medicines I get a tasty treat.

I know that with the help of all of LSWR volunteers, I will find my way home to my new loving family. I will make a full recovery!
If you’d like to send me a note on FB or (lswrvolunteers@verizon.net), my foster mom said she’ll read them to me. Or if you’d like to send in a donation to LSWR to help special fosters like me, please visit http://www.lswr.us and click on the PAYPAL button to donate. You can also mail your donation to:

ADOPTED: Toulouse Looking for his Furever Home:

Toulouse 3 22 14

My name is Toulouse and I’m looking for a new family to call my own.

Let me tell you about myself.  I’m 10 years young, very active, and extremely sweet.   I love to cuddle when sitting and touching with my human on the sofa.  I’m a very well behaved Westie,  I’m housebroken and know proper manners.   I get along great with other dogs big and small, kitty cats and I would really like a furry-sibling for a companion.  It doesn’t matter if my new bud is  a small doggie or big doggie – I like them all!

I’m really getting along terrifically with my foster sibs and I play a lot with the smaller doggie.  So if you are looking for a great looking Westie and mature guy to take walks with during the day and sit and watch movies with…than I’m your guy!

I’m seeking a family that will promise to cherish and love me so I can spend the remainder of my many wonderful years with you.

Big Westie kiss!

Scotty (Adopted 3/14)

My name is Scotty and I have a wonderful personality, love to play, love being around my people and really enjoy playing with the other Westies.

I was a matted mess and a little stinky when I first arrived but not anymore!!  The shelter staff was wonderful and gave me plenty of kisses and assured me that someone would come rescue me.  The shelter staff contacted LSWR to ask if they’d take me into their rescue program and within a couple of hours, an LSWR volunteer picked me up, took me to the vet and then on to a spa treatment.  I was very sad, reserved and stressed at the shelter but that all changed in a matter of hours after I arrived in my foster home.  In fact, my foster mom said, I was so happy to be there that she couldn’t get me to stop for a picture.  Guess I am a party boy!  I am a very sweet Westie and I’m getting along with my foster Westie buddies.

I am 11 years young, well mannered and well behaved, not to mention adorable and sweet.  I like snuggling with my foster dad.  I am a beautiful boy, weighing in at 19 pounds, fully vetted, neutered and ready for a home where I will never be abandoned again.  I will be the perfect little pet for my new family.

I will give you my heart and love you forever.

Looking for his Furever Home

Copy IMG_1473 lucas foster homeI’m Lucas and I need a new place to call my very own. Due to life changing circumstances, my owner could no longer keep me and called LSWR. I received a “head to tail” exam from the dogtor. I’m happy to report that my results came back with a clean bill of health. My prior owner really took excellent care of me. I am a young male Westie, weighing in at 25 pounds….solid muscle! I am a very good boy and quite active. I get along great with other dogs and I even grew up with a cat. I am a very active boy so I am looking for a home with another doggie so I can have a playmate and we can play.

I love to go for walks and walk really well on a leash. I am neutered, microchipped and up to date on my vaccinations. I am looking for a new “leash” on life, would you be my new family?

Please check out my great photos and get your application in quick!

Cheers, Lucas

(Adopted 3/14) Lil Wes Comes to LSWR:

Lis Wes Copy IMG_1503 Copy IMG_1500 Copy IMG_1497 Copy IMG_1488Look at me, I’m Wesley…but my friends call me Lil’ Wes.

If you’re looking for the best companion anyone could ever hope for, look no more, I am that and so much more.  I just arrived from a local shelter.  I am a young and vibrant 3 year old little Westie, weighing in at about 13 pounds.  I had skin and yeast infections when I was found by Operation Kindness, but thanks to the excellent vet care they provided me, I’m turning into quite the lil’ prince and my hair is growing back.  They gave me the best vet care possible, great meals, medicated baths and a nice soft bed to sleep in.  The shelter staff really loved me and cared for me before they called LSWR.

I figured out that I could get by with my sweet disposition and my looks.  Even while my hair is growing back, I am adorable!

I am crate trained and like to sleep there but I also enjoy lying on my foster mum’s lap and like it when she hugs and kisses me.  I walk great on a leash and am potty trained.  I LOVE toys and playing fetch.  I love to chase my toys and play tug o war.  Any toy you give me, I will love.  I am fully vetted, microchipped, and neutered.

Though I came from a very neglectful past, I am on the road to recovery.  I know a beautiful wiry Westie coat will come in time but this does not take away from my dashing good looks and my fun personality.  I have an incredibly sweet disposition and I am one happy little guy!  So if you are searching for one amazing little Westie, and a love bug….I’m your lil man!

Westie hugs & kisses….Lil Wes

SCOTTY IS LOOKING FOR HIS “FUREVER” HOME:

Scotty pic photo 2 ??????????My name is Scotty and I’m brand new to LSWR.  It’s hard to understand why I was dropped off at the shelter by my previous owner.  I was no longer wanted and it broke my heart.  I was a matted mess, filthy and smelly.  The shelter staff was wonderful and gave me plenty of kisses and assured me that someone would come rescue me.  A shelter is no place for a senior doggie.  The shelter assistant contacted LSWR to ask if they’d take me into their rescue program and within a couple of hours, an LSWR volunteer picked me up, took me to the vet and then on to a spa treatment.  I was very sad, reserved and stressed at the shelter but that all changed in a matter of hours after I arrived in my foster home.  In fact, my foster mom said, I was so happy to be there that she couldn’t get me to stop for a picture.  Guess I am a party boy!  I am a very sweet Westie and I’m getting along with my foster Westie buddy.

The very adorable, Scotty.

Update:

I’m a fine & sweet sweet westie by the name of Deuce. Sadly, I was taken to a shelter and sat patiently at the shelter. The nice lady at the shelter recognized what a sweet boy I was and gave LSWR a call. She said I was the sweetest 10 year old boy and knew that my life would be changed for the better once I joined LSWR.  It was a great day when a guardian angel came to get me and I joined LSWR.  I’ve been evaluated by the doctor and they found I had an ear infection; so they gave my Foster Mom some medicine. I have been neutered and had a dental and I’m ready for adoption.

I play like a puppy when it’s playtime and playing fetch is my forte. I also like just chilling with the family.  If you want a handsome westie that will make a wonderful addition to your family, please contact LSWR. I have lots of westie smooches to give my forever family.

Westie hugs & kisses, Deuce
