Abby the Shih Tzu

I’m a 10-month-old Shih Tzu, and if you met me today, you’d probably notice my sweet face and wagging tail. But not long ago, life was much harder.

I spent much of my young life living outside. I didn’t know what it felt like to have a cozy bed, yummy meals, or someone watching over me and making sure I was safe. The world felt big and lonely, and I simply did my best to get through each day.

Thankfully, I was welcomed into rescue, where hope shines bright and every dog is given a chance at a better life. For the first time, I was surrounded by people who cared about my well-being and wanted to help me heal. This is the beginning of a brand-new chapter in my life, one filled with kindness, hope, second chances, and the promise of finally knowing what it feels like to be safe, cherished, and loved.

You see, I was hurting.

Every time I needed to go potty, I struggled. It was painful and confusing, and I didn’t understand why I felt so bad. I tried my best to be brave, but something was clearly wrong. That’s when the wonderful people at Lone Star Westie Rescue stepped in to help change my life.

After seeing the veterinarian, we learned that I have a bladder stone that has been causing all of my discomfort. The good news is that help is finally here! I’ve already started pain medication and antibiotics, and I’m feeling much better than I did when I first arrived. For the first time in a long while, I can actually imagine feeling good again.

I had surgery to remove the stone and I’m doing remarkably well. I’ll need some time to rest, heal, and regain my strength. My foster family and the caring people at LSWR will make sure I have everything I need during my recovery.

And then?

Then my next chapter begins.

Once I’m healed, I’ll be ready to find a forever family of my very own. A family who will keep me safe, love me unconditionally, and make sure I never have to live outside again. A family who will cherish me as part of their home and heart.

Those difficult days are behind me now. I’m looking forward to a future filled with belly rubs, cozy naps, happy walks, and lots of love.

Thank you to everyone who helped me get this far. My journey isn’t over yet, but thanks to LSWR and so many kind people, I finally have hope.

Love,
Abby
