Dougie (aka Kirby) – Adopted

My name is Dougie but you can call me Kirby! Recently, I found myself with Lake Dallas Animal Services, and I wasn’t quite sure why. But I can tell you, I immediately knew I’d found somewhere that would help me. I really couldn’t see very well, and I overheard the dogtor say that they couldn’t even really see my eyeballs, but I wasn’t scared. I loved the whole staff, and I knew they were there to take care of me.

It turns out, I’m about 5-7 years old, and I weight 11 lbs. My vaccines are now up to date, I’m heartworm negative, and they also neutered me! I know, I know… it’s for my own good! The very nice dogtors were also able to figure out what exactly is going on with my eyes. I am basically blind in both eyes due to phthisis bulbi, which is a shrunken, nonfunctional eye. My condition can develop after severe ocular trauma or intraocular inflammatory disease. Apparently, I don’t really need much done for this. It’s something I’ll live with, and it doesn’t really bother me. In the case that my eyes become dry, I have over the counter eyedrop medication that gets me fixed right up! I get around pretty good and I’m very low key and potty trained. And I love being outside just soaking in the sun.

Not only did Lake Dallas Animal Services step up and reach out directly to LSWR for more long-term help for me, but Denton Animal Support Foundation covered all of my vetting while I was at Lake Dallas Animal Services as well as the ER! I am forever grateful for not one, not two, but THREE organizations who have stepped up to get me on the road to being in tip-top shape.

I’m home with my foster mom right now, and I just love being in her lap and snuggling. But, mealtime is a close second along with sunbathing and frolicking in the backyard garden! And my eyes are already looking and feeling so much better! I’m such a sweet pup and I adore all the TLC I’m getting. I’m really low key, just laid back and like to chill. If you have a room in your home and heart for a sweet boy like me, I’d love to hear from you.

If you have the room in your home and heart for me, I’d love to hear from you.
